A lumbar fusion operation involves the insertion of implants into one or more levels of the spine and the creation of a surgical "fracture" so the bones will heal as one and will prevent further motion at that level. There are many reasons to undergo a spinal fusion operation including evidence of instability in part of the spine or recurrent symptoms from a specific level of the spine.
Dr. Mendelsohn routinely performs lumbar fusion operations in carefully selected patients.
